Yes, you can hire full-time sales support specialists in Indonesia (sales development reps, sales operations and CRM administrators, bid and proposal coordinators) on compliant permanent contracts through an Employer of Record, without your own local entity. The person works only for you, inside your CRM and your sales process, and reports to your sales leadership.
For most companies it is also the right first offshore sales hire. Sales support multiplies the closers you already have without giving anyone offshore the authority to commit your company to anything. Its value shows up in a CRM your sellers trust, account research good enough to act on and follow-up that happens the same day. Judge the hire by what it frees your sellers to do, and you will see quickly whether it is working.
Why sales support is the offshore sales hire to make first
Sales support is usually the best-value first offshore sales hire because it adds selling time to the people who already close, instead of adding another closer you then have to ramp, manage and trust with your pricing.
Salesforce’s State of Sales report, published in February 2026 from a survey of 4,050 sales professionals in 22 countries, found that the average seller spends 40% of their time selling. The rest typically goes on research, data entry, internal coordination, proposals and chasing. Much of that is work a well-trained specialist can do as well or better. A CRM full of half-logged calls usually means the sellers had no time to log them.
Hiring another closer adds one more person with that same split. Hiring a sales support specialist moves the non-selling work off the desks of several sellers at once. That is why a good sales support hire is often worth more than a mediocre extra seller.
There is a second reason, and it matters if you sell across borders. Sales support does not negotiate, price or sign. The role is designed so that nobody in it negotiates, prices or signs on your behalf. That is a design choice, not a tax ruling: whether any arrangement creates a taxable presence depends on what people actually do. That is not a tax ruling. Whether any arrangement creates a taxable presence for your company depends on what people actually do, so keep the boundary real: an SDR who starts quoting discounts or agreeing terms has become a different role. Our guide to permanent establishment risk for sales teams in Indonesia explains why, and the overall structure is worth confirming with your tax adviser. If you do need someone in Indonesia to open or close deals, that is a different hire, covered on hire business development managers in Indonesia.
SDR, sales ops or bid coordinator: three different remote sales support hires
Sales support covers three distinct jobs, and the most common hiring mistake is advertising for one person to do all three.
Sales development rep (research and outbound) | Sales operations and CRM administrator | Bid and proposal coordinator | |
|---|---|---|---|
What they do | Research target accounts, build contact lists, run outbound sequences, qualify replies and book meetings for your sellers | Own CRM data quality, pipeline stages, fields, reports and dashboards; administer users, permissions and integrations; support forecasting | Manage the response to tenders and RFPs: compliance matrices, content library, deadlines, assembling and formatting proposals for seller and legal sign-off |
Owns in the CRM | Their accounts, contacts and activity, logged in full | The system itself: structure, hygiene rules, reporting | Opportunity documents, bid calendars and the reusable answer library |
Measured by | Qualified meetings your sellers accept, research accuracy, reply-to-meeting conversion | Data completeness and accuracy, report reliability, time sellers spend on admin | Bids submitted on time and compliant, turnaround time, seller hours saved per bid |
Must not do | Quote prices, offer discounts, agree terms, sign | Change pricing or approve discounts | Commit to commercial terms or sign submissions |
Best fit when | Your sellers have capacity to take more first meetings | Your pipeline reports are not trusted, or your CRM has outgrown whoever set it up | A meaningful share of your revenue comes through formal tenders or RFPs |
A fourth title, sales coordinator, usually means a blend of the second and third columns plus scheduling, order administration and customer follow-up for a small team. It suits a team of three or four sellers, provided the job description says which duty comes first when they collide.
If what you actually need is demand generation through campaigns, content and paid channels rather than one-to-one prospecting, that is a marketing hire. See hire digital marketers in Indonesia.
Measure sales support by what it frees your sellers to do
The right scorecard for offshore sales support measures what changes for your sellers.
Activity metrics are easy to collect and easy to game: dials, emails and record updates rise just as fast when the work is poor. Pick a small number of outcome measures, agree them before the hire starts, and review them with your sellers in the room:
Selling time per seller, estimated honestly before the hire and again after the first quarter.
Speed of follow-up: how long an inbound lead or a post-meeting action waits before someone acts on it.
CRM reliability: whether your sales leader can run a forecast meeting from the CRM without a side spreadsheet.
Seller acceptance: the share of booked meetings or prepared research your sellers rate as worth their time.
The last one is the quiet test of an SDR. If your sellers start cancelling the meetings an SDR books, the problem is qualification, and more volume will make it worse.
Variable pay follows the same logic. If an SDR earns a bonus, tie it to meetings your sellers accept as qualified, not to closed revenue. That keeps the incentive aligned with the job, and it keeps the pay plan consistent with a role that supports deals rather than closing them.
CRM access, data and outbound rules
Give a sales support hire the CRM access a new local hire in the same seat would get, no more, set through your CRM’s own role and permission settings. Salesforce and HubSpot both let you control which records a user can see and edit, and HubSpot also has a per-user export switch. Use those controls from day one, and keep bulk export off for anyone who does not need it.
A sales ops or CRM administrator needs admin rights eventually. Stage them: start with reporting and data access, and add configuration rights once you have seen how they work.
An SDR rarely needs export rights. A bulk export is the easiest way for a pipeline to leave the company.
Run the CRM on a managed device, so the laptop that holds your pipeline is controlled by you and can be locked and wiped at offboarding. Our guide to remote device security and MDM covers the approach.
Outbound prospecting needs one more decision before the first sequence goes out. Email and phone outreach to prospects is governed by the marketing and privacy rules of the markets you are selling into, and those rules differ from one market to the next. Your sales support hire follows your rules for each market, so write them down: which markets may be contacted by email or phone, what consent or opt-out handling applies, and who maintains suppression lists. Your own legal or privacy adviser should set those rules, not the SDR.
The data itself also travels. Prospect and customer records handled from Jakarta will usually include personal data crossing borders, and Indonesia has its own personal data protection law, Law No. 27 of 2022. Ask your privacy adviser to confirm the transfer position for the markets you sell into before access is granted.
Time zones: build the follow-up loop around Jakarta
Jakarta is on UTC+7 all year and does not observe daylight saving time, so the gap to any market that changes its clocks moves by an hour twice a year.
For sales support the offset is often an advantage. Jakarta shares much of the working day with most of Asia-Pacific and overlaps with a European morning in its afternoon. For sellers further west, the useful pattern is a hand-off loop rather than live overlap: your sellers log calls and actions at the end of their day, and by the time they start the next morning the CRM is updated, research for that day’s meetings is done and follow-up drafts are waiting for approval. Inbound leads that arrive overnight in your market can get a first response before your own team is awake.
If the role needs live phone outreach during your buyers’ business hours in a distant time zone, agree the working hours before the offer, as part of the employment terms, rather than letting the job drift into night shifts. Southeast Asia timezone coverage has the overlap maths for your own market, and follow-the-sun offshore team coverage covers how teams split a working day across regions.
What moves the price of a sales support specialist
Platform depth, where the experience was earned, written English for your buyers and tender experience move the price of a sales support specialist in Indonesia more than the title does. Salary is what the person earns; all-in cost adds statutory employer contributions and the service fee. Within sales support, the three roles price differently, and so do candidates within each one.
Pay for sales support roles in Indonesia, especially for people with CRM administration or multinational sales operations experience, reprices faster than any published survey can follow, so a band printed here would mislead you within months. MixWork quotes a current figure for the role and seniority you need on a call. Book a free consultation.
Named platform depth. Someone who has administered Salesforce or HubSpot at real scale (custom objects, automation, integrations) prices well above someone who has only used it as a seller.
Where the experience was earned. Sales operations inside a multinational, with formal forecasting and data governance, is a different training ground from a small local team.
Written English for your buyers. An SDR writing first-touch emails to senior buyers in your market needs written English good enough that the buyer never wonders where it came from.
Tender experience. Bid coordinators who have run formal public or enterprise tenders end to end are scarce and price accordingly.
How to vet a sales support specialist
Vet sales support on real work, because the job is mostly invisible in an interview. A short exercise matched to the role predicts performance better than any conversation.
Exercise | Best for | How to run it | What good looks like |
|---|---|---|---|
Research test on five real target accounts | SDRs, sales coordinators | Give five company names from your actual target list and a short description of your ideal customer. Ask for a one-page brief on each: fit or no fit, likely buying roles, a recent trigger worth mentioning, and a suggested first line | At least one account honestly ruled out, sources noted, uncertainty flagged rather than guessed, openers specific to the account |
CRM clean-up exercise | Sales ops and CRM administrators, sales coordinators | Provide an export of around a hundred records built from dummy data, with duplicates, inconsistent stages, missing fields and bad formatting. Ask for the cleaned file and a short note on the rules they applied | Consistent rules applied consistently, duplicates merged with judgement, and a suggestion for the validation rule or field change that would stop the mess recurring |
Compliance matrix from a sample RFP | Bid and proposal coordinators | Share a public RFP, or a past one with the buyer’s details removed, and ask them to build the requirements matrix and a submission timeline | Nothing missed, owners and deadlines realistic, questions to the buyer listed |
Build the CRM exercise from dummy records, never from a real export. Candidates should not see your customers’ personal data, and a well-built fake dataset tests exactly the same skills.
On the research test, the strongest signal is what the candidate leaves out. A weak candidate fills every field with confident text, some of it invented or pulled unchecked from an AI tool. A strong one tells you which account is a poor fit, which facts they could not confirm, and where they found the rest.
Who you are actually hiring
This page assumes a mid-career hire, roughly three to six years in. More than 80% of the people MixWork places come from multinational or global-agency backgrounds. Twelve-month retention across MixWork placements runs above 90%, measured on our own placement data. In sales operations that matters more than it first appears: the person who rebuilt your pipeline stages is the person who knows why each field exists.
English among Jakarta’s professional class is very high, and near-native among the professionals we place. They write to your sellers and your prospects, present pipeline reports to sales leadership and run internal meetings without an intermediary.
Every MixWork placement works with AI tools daily as standard, and sales research is one of the places it pays off fastest. Microsoft’s Work Trend Index 2026, published 30 June 2026, found that 93% of AI users in Indonesia treat AI output as a starting point rather than a final answer, against 86% globally. In account research, where an unchecked AI summary can put a wrong fact in front of a buyer, that habit is worth more than the speed.
When MixWork is the wrong partner
MixWork is the wrong partner for pay-per-meeting appointment setting or a short outbound test, and too early if you have no sellers yet.
You want appointment setting paid per meeting, or a short outbound test campaign. An agency or a freelancer suits that better; MixWork provides full-time permanent employment only, with no contractors or freelancers.
You have no sellers yet. Sales support needs closers to support. Start with the selling role, then add support behind it.
How MixWork hires sales support specialists
MixWork Recruit runs the search, success-based, from 10% of first-year salary, on MixWork’s own proprietary data and AI tools. The recruiters do the work; the platform makes them faster. For mid-level sales support roles a first shortlist can arrive in as little as 24 hours. Recruitment typically takes two to three weeks from brief to an accepted offer, and if the candidate is employed, their 30-day resignation notice comes on top and sets the real start date.
We do most of the screening: application review, AI screening, recruiter screening, a pre-screen interview, an HR interview and a live skills assessment for the role. You join for the main interview and the alignment interview, and the research test or CRM exercise fits the main interview.
MixWork EOR employs the hire on a PKWTT permanent contract (see PKWT vs PKWTT) and runs payroll, PPh 21, BPJS and THR, from USD 249 per employee per month. Activation and onboarding can take as little as 24 hours once you have chosen the hire. MixWork Total Care 360 is included at no extra cost: a named HR manager backed by a full HR team, monthly check-in calls with the employee and separately with you, engagement and dispute resolution, and performance and attendance monitoring.
Two add-ons matter more for this role than most. MixWork Managed IT, from USD 99 per device per month with no deposit and no upfront payment, puts your CRM on a managed device held in-region. MixWork Spaces, dedicated workspaces in Jakarta run by MixWork itself, start from USD 199 per workspace per month for a hire who works better from an office than from home. The cost calculator turns a target salary into an all-in monthly figure.
