Indonesia has two other zones: Central Indonesia Time (WITA, UTC+8) covering Bali and Makassar, and Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT, UTC+9) covering Papua. MixWork's talent base is in Jakarta, so everything below uses WIB.
Indonesia does not observe daylight saving. The United States does, from 8 March to 1 November in 2026. So the gap between Jakarta and any US city changes by one hour twice a year, and any coverage plan needs to account for it.

Where a standard Jakarta workday lands
This is the table most people actually need. A conventional Jakarta day of 9am to 6pm, mapped onto US local time while the US is on daylight saving:

With both sides working conventional hours there is no live overlap with the continental United States. Only Hawaii gets any. Anyone claiming otherwise is either shifting someone's hours or being loose with the truth.
That is not the disadvantage it first looks like, and the next two sections explain why.
The asynchronous case: your night is their day
The single most useful fact on this page:
A standard Jakarta workday ends between 6:00am and 7:00am US Eastern.
6am when the US is on standard time, 7am when it is on daylight saving. Either way, it finishes before the American working day begins.
So work handed over at 6pm in New York gets a full nine hour working day in Jakarta and is waiting when you open your laptop at 9am. Nobody worked unsocial hours to make that happen. Your team went home, their team came in, and the work carried on.
For asynchronous functions this is close to a free extra shift:
- Support tickets raised overnight are triaged and answered before your morning
- Code pushed at 6pm has been through QA, review and bug triage by 9am
- Yesterday's transactions are reconciled before you open the books
- Overnight orders and exception queues are processed before your fulfilment team starts
- Monitoring and alert response is handled by people who are awake and on a normal shift, rather than by paging an engineer at 3am
The US Pacific version is slightly less neat but still works. A Jakarta day ends at 3am or 4am Pacific, five to six hours before a Californian team starts.
The live overlap options, without night shifts
If you want some synchronous time as well as the overnight, a modest schedule shift buys it. None of the options below is a night shift.

The practical recommendations:
- US East Coast clients: Jakarta 12:00 to 21:00. Full overnight coverage plus a live handover hour from 9am to 10am Eastern, which is when your team most wants to ask questions about what happened overnight.
- US West Coast clients: Jakarta 06:00 to 15:00. Two hours of live overlap at the end of your Californian afternoon, because Jakarta's early morning is your previous day's late afternoon.
Getting a full US business day of live overlap would require Jakarta staff working 20:00 to 05:00 or 22:00 to 07:00. Those are genuine night shifts. MixWork does not offer them, and it is worth understanding why: night rotas are where offshore teams churn, and churn is what destroys the value of an offshore team in the first place.
Total coverage, and how to think about it
Put a US Eastern team and a Jakarta team together and the arithmetic works out well.
A US Eastern team on 9:00am to 6:00pm, plus a Jakarta team on 12:00 to 21:00 WIB (which is 1:00am to 10:00am Eastern), produces:
- Contiguous coverage from 1:00am to 6:00pm US Eastern: 17 hours
- A live handover hour from 9:00am to 10:00am Eastern
- An uncovered window from 6:00pm to 1:00am Eastern
Seventeen hours of coverage, one shared hour for handover, and nobody working nights. For most businesses the uncovered evening window is the least costly one to leave open.
Be careful with the language here. This is coverage arithmetic, not a claim about output. What it buys you is response time, processing cycles and iterations per day. Whether that translates into growth depends on your business, not on the time zone.
Asia Pacific coverage from Jakarta
This is the part most US buyers do not think about until they have customers in the region, and it is where Jakarta's position becomes genuinely hard to replicate.

A Jakarta team working 9am to 6pm covers every major Southeast Asian market during that market's own business hours, with no shift adjustment at all. Singapore and Manila are one hour ahead, which means a Jakarta 9 to 6 covers 10am to 7pm in those cities. Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City are identical.
For comparison, the Latin American nearshore option that competes for the same budget in most US companies sits 12 to 14 hours away from Singapore. A Bogotá or Mexico City team cannot serve Southeast Asian business hours at all without a night shift.
If your customers are in Asia, this is not a marginal preference. It is the difference between covering them and not.
Europe and the Middle East
Jakarta's afternoon is Europe's morning, so the relationship is easier than with the US.
- London is 6 hours behind Jakarta in British Summer Time, 7 hours behind in winter. A Jakarta 9am to 6pm covers 3am to 12pm London, giving roughly three hours of live overlap with a London morning.
- Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam are 5 hours behind in summer, 6 in winter. Jakarta 9am to 6pm covers 4am to 1pm, so about four hours of overlap with a European morning.
- Dubai is 3 hours behind. Jakarta 9am to 6pm covers 6am to 3pm, overlapping most of a Gulf working day.
European and Middle Eastern clients generally get usable live overlap from a completely standard Jakarta schedule.
Public holidays
Indonesia has its own national holiday calendar, which differs from the US and European ones and shifts annually because several holidays follow the Islamic calendar. Any coverage arrangement should agree holiday handling up front rather than discovering it in month four. We work this through with clients during scoping.
What this means for choosing a location
The honest summary, which is also the useful one.
If your requirement is constant synchronous availability with a US team, no Asian location delivers it without night shifts, and a Latin American nearshore team is the better answer. That is a real trade off and pretending otherwise wastes everyone's time.
If your requirement is overnight coverage, an extra processing cycle per day, or presence in Asian business hours, Jakarta is close to optimal. It covers the entire US night on ordinary hours, offers one or two hours of live handover with a modest shift, and reaches every Southeast Asian market during that market's own working day.
Most companies discover their requirement is the second one once they look closely at what the work actually needs.
