Comparing MixWork and Deel for hiring an employee in Indonesia

MixWork vs Deel

The short answer

Both providers employ people compliantly in Indonesia. The real question is whether you need global reach or on-the-ground management.

BETTER FIT

Choose Deel if

  • You are hiring across many countries and want one platform for all of them.

  • You want to start without a sales conversation.

  • Software depth — immigration, equity, integrations — is a primary requirement.

  • You already have HR and operations capacity and only need the employment layer.

  • You need contractor or freelancer management, which we do not offer.

BETTER FIT

Choose MixWork if

  • Indonesia, or Southeast Asia, is your main offshore market.

  • You want a named HR manager in-country who owns the outcome.

  • You want device costs with no deposit and no upfront payment, on a three-month minimum.

  • You want laptops provisioned and supported from this region, at a published price.

  • You want HR management, engagement and performance oversight included as standard.

MixWork vs Deel for Hiring in Indonesia (2026)

By the MixWork Team · Last updated 1 August 2026

Deel is the stronger choice if you hire across many countries and want one global platform. MixWork is the stronger choice if Indonesia is your primary offshore market and you want the team actively managed on the ground. The practical differences are what is bundled into the fee, whether a security deposit is required, and where your laptops come from.

Disclosure: MixWork competes with Deel. The table below compares published commercial terms only. Deel’s figures were read from Deel’s own pages on 1 August 2026 and every source is listed at the foot of this page.

Where Deel is the stronger choice

We would rather you knew this before a sales call than after a contract:

  • Multi-country hiring. Deel states it operates across well over a hundred countries. If you are hiring in many markets at once, that reach is real and we do not match it.

  • Product breadth. Deel publishes time tracking at no extra charge, engagement and performance tooling through Deel Engage, immigration support and equity administration. As software, it is more capable than anything we build.

  • Self-serve and scale. You can start without a sales conversation, and Deel is independently well reviewed, holding 4.9 out of 5 across 4,299 reviews on Capterra as at 1 August 2026.

  • A single dashboard. If consolidating many countries into one system is your priority, that is a genuine advantage of the platform model.

Where MixWork is different, and why it matters

Our advantages are specific and checkable. Each one below states what we do, alongside Deel’s published position on the same point.

1. Device costs that do not tie up capital

MixWork Managed IT requires no deposit and no upfront hardware charge, on a three-month minimum per device. Deel publishes no deposit for equipment either, but states it requests an upfront payment equal to six months of the lease to secure sourcing and shipping, on a rental term of 12 to 48 months. On EOR security deposits the two providers are broadly comparable — MixWork requires one to two months depending on the engagement, and Deel’s help centre documents 1 to 1.5 times monthly charges rising to two months in certain circumstances — so treat that as a wash rather than a reason to pick either.

2. Laptops that come from this region

We hold devices in Singapore and Jakarta, image them ourselves, and hand them over locally. Deel publishes that Deel IT fulfils from three hubs — London, Amsterdam and Houston — supplemented by local in-country partners, with no Asia-Pacific hub, and that its express shipping option is offered within the UK, EU and US only. Our terms are published: from USD$99 per device / month, a three-month minimum per device, no deposit and no upfront payment. Full detail is on the MixWork Managed IT page.

3. A named person in Indonesia, not a queue

You get a named HR manager based in Indonesia who stays the same month to month, works your team’s hours, and joins a scheduled monthly check-in. Deel advertises 24/7 support and a dedicated onboarding manager; as at 1 August 2026 it does not publish a response-time SLA, and does not publish which plan tiers include a dedicated customer success manager. For our device programme we publish the commitment: respond within one working day, working again within one to two by repair or loaner. That is what Total Care 360 covers.

4. Software you administer versus a service we operate

This is the honest version of a distinction that is often overstated. Deel does provide engagement and performance tooling, and includes time tracking at no extra charge — we would not suggest otherwise. The difference is who does the work. Deel gives your managers software to run these processes. We run them for you: the check-ins happen, the attendance patterns get noticed, the difficult conversation gets had, because that is somebody’s job rather than a dashboard you are meant to visit.

5. One bundle instead of four line items

HR management, engagement and dispute resolution, performance and attendance oversight, monthly employee and client check-in calls and workspace are included in how we deliver, not switched on later. On a platform, workspace is a published USD 299 per person per month through an external network, equipment is a separate lease, and engagement is a separate product. We are also generally more cost-effective across the board — see pricing or model your own numbers with the cost calculator.

How we compare, and how these claims are substantiated

This page compares published commercial terms, not service quality. Every figure attributed to Deel was read directly from Deel’s own published pages on 1 August 2026, and each source is listed at the end of this page. We hold copies of those pages as they appeared on that date. Our full comparison methodology and disclaimers sets out the standards we apply.

  • We compare like with like. Where the two offerings are not directly comparable, we say so rather than implying an advantage.

  • “Not published” means exactly that. Where we note that Deel does not publish something, we mean it was not on Deel’s public pages on 1 August 2026. It is not a statement that Deel cannot or does not provide it.

  • We make no claim about Deel’s service quality. We have not used customer complaints or negative review commentary to argue our case.

  • We name where Deel is stronger. A comparison that finds no merit in the alternative is not a fair comparison, and would not help you decide.

  • Figures go out of date. Third-party pricing and terms change without notice and we do not monitor them continuously. Verify current terms against Deel’s own pages before you contract.

Spotted something inaccurate or out of date? Email support@mixwork.co with the statement and a link to the correct source, and we will verify and correct or remove it promptly. That invitation applies to competitors as much as customers.

Frequently asked questions

Is MixWork cheaper than Deel for hiring in Indonesia?

Generally yes, and the difference widens once separately priced items are included. Deel publishes USD 599 per employee per month, with coworking access at a further USD 299 per person per month (Deel pricing page and help centre, accessed 1 August 2026). MixWork charges a flat per-employee fee that already includes HR management, engagement, performance and attendance oversight and monthly employee and client check-in calls, with devices from USD$99 per device / month and no device deposit. Both providers require an EOR security deposit of roughly one to two months, so that is not a differentiator. Ask both providers for a total figure on your actual headcount.

What is the main difference between MixWork and Deel?

How the service is delivered. Deel is a software platform with global reach, and supplies workspace and equipment through external providers. MixWork operates in Indonesia with our own team and our own Jakarta office, and delivers HR management, dispute resolution, performance and attendance oversight and device support ourselves, bundled into one engagement.

Which should I choose if I hire in several countries?

Deel. If Indonesia is one of many markets, Deel’s global reach and single platform will serve you better than a Southeast Asia specialist, and we will tell you that on a sales call rather than after you sign.

Does MixWork offer contractor management or contractor-of-record?

No. We engage people only as full-time, permanent employees on compliant Indonesian employment contracts. If you need contractor-of-record or freelancer management, Deel offers that and we do not — we would point you there rather than improvise. Our position is that for anyone who works like a member of your team, employment is the lower-risk structure in Indonesia, because misclassification is assessed on the substance of the working relationship rather than the wording of the agreement.

Do MixWork and Deel require a security deposit?

Deel’s help centre documents a standard EOR deposit of between 1 and 1.5 times all monthly charges, including salary, employer costs, allowances and management fees, and states it may be higher where termination risk is elevated. It rises to two months in certain circumstances, including removing probation, granting paid leave more than eight days above the legal minimum, or transferring an existing EOR employee with accrued benefits (accessed 1 August 2026). MixWork Managed IT requires no deposit.

How do the two providers handle laptops for an Indonesian team?

Deel publishes that Deel IT fulfils from hubs in London, Amsterdam and Houston, supplemented by local in-country partners, and that express shipping is offered only within the UK, EU and US. It publishes a median order cycle of four days for Indonesia, noting this can vary with inventory, carrier performance and customs clearance (Deel help centre, accessed 1 August 2026). MixWork holds devices in Singapore and Jakarta, images them in-house and hands them over in-region, from USD$99 per device / month with accidental damage covered and a loaner while anything is repaired.

Do I get a named person or a support queue?

With MixWork you get a named HR manager based in Indonesia who stays the same month to month, plus a scheduled monthly check-in. Deel advertises 24/7 support and a dedicated onboarding manager on its EOR page; as at 1 August 2026 it does not publish a response-time SLA, and does not publish which plan tiers include a dedicated customer success manager.
